BIG APPLE CRUNCH
October 25th, 2025 at 2pm

Did you know that New York produces about 30 million bushels of apples annually?  In fact, if the state of New York were a country, its yearly harvest would rank just outside the top 20 globally.  To celebrate this bounty, every year FarmOn! partners with local growers in New York’s apple belt for the Big Apple Crunch.

HOST A CRUNCH
BAC RESOURCES

The Big Apple Crunch is straightforward.  Each year, on or around October 24, participants from across the state are invited to take a bite out of an apple grown in New York.  The program began in 2012 as a partnership between nonprofit group GrowNYC and the NYC Office of Food Policy, and has only grown from there.  Hundreds of thousands of students at schools and college campuses statewide now join in every year.  Last year, we saw over 2.3 million New Yorkers participate!

Organizing your own Crunch is easy.  FarmOn! has everything you need to get started.  Host a Crunch at your school, or at your workplace — but don’t forget about us!  Upload a photo from your event using the tag #BigAppleCrunch, so that we can see it.  The Crunch that most impresses us will win $1,000 toward a FarmOn! Victory Garden.  It’s our little way of thanking you for supporting the wonderful men and women who feed all of us.
