People’s Parade in Kinderhook Village

On Friday, July 4 will be the People’s Parade in Kinderhook Village. They want you and your patriotic spirit. Decorate your car, stroller, wagon, garden tractor, bike, anything you can push, pull or ride. Wear your best red, white and blue. Not up for marching, bring a chair to relax from the sidelines. Family Fun Day

On Saturday, July 5 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at Siegel-Kline Kill Conservation Area in Ghent, join the Columbia Land Conservancy for old-fashioned games and races (horseshoe, sack-race, hoop-spinning, etc); two border collie duck-herding demonstrations; an Independence Day themed story by a professional story-teller; a Bonfire with s’mores; and much more! “Mane Event”

Saturday, July 12 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm is the “Mane Event” – High & Mighty Celebrates the Year or the Horse. Proceeds from this second annual fundraiser will benefit High & Mighty programs, scholarships, equipment and care of the horses. The day promises to be great fun. Sunset Cocktail Cruise

Set sail with Friends of the Hudson Area Library for what is certain to be a high point of summer, the Sunset Cocktail Cruise on the Hudson River, Saturday, July 12. This year’s cruise will feature a spectacular fireworks display
with unobscured viewing onboard the Spirit of the Hudson. The cruise sails from the dock at the Hudson Riverfront Park at 7:30 pm for a festive evening with live jazz, cocktails (cash bar) and hors d’ oeuvres. Boarding begins at 7:00 pm and will return at 10:00 pm. Tickets are $60. For tickets or more information call the Hudson Area Library at 828-1792.

Have a Girl’s Night Out

Taconic Stage Company and Mac-Haydn Theatre have the perfect recipe for a girls’ night out on Mondays this July– The
Real (Desperate) Housewives of Columbia County. This hilarious musical revue–a tongue-in-cheek battle between weekenders and locals by Carl Ritchie with music by L. A. composer Wayne Moore–has already played a sold-out season at Copake Lake as well as another sold-out run in NYC at the Laurie Beechman Theatre last year. Backstage (NYC) raved, “Theatrical gold – I was so busy jotting down Ritchie’s clever lyrics that I almost didn’t have time to laugh. Anyone who pairs ‘gin and tonics’ with ‘Manolo Blahniks’ is aces in my book. It is a fun, fizzy, and fast cocktail!” (But don’t worry – men howl just as loudly as the ladies!

Scarecrow Making Clinic

On Sunday, July 13 at 9:00 am there will be a Scarecrow Making Clinic at the Chatham Fairgrounds in Chatham. Prize-winning scarecrow maker Mike DiMisa of Ghent is ready to teach his skill to anyone interested in learning. The free hands-on workshop is for all ages. Clinic is very informal and a lot of fun. FarmOn! Hoedown

Friday, July 18, FarmOn! Hoedown Concert by Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real Club Helsinki Hudson. The FarmOn! Hoedown concert is a stand-alone event for the first time ever, with the generous support of John Varvatos. This summer’s rock concert takes place at Club Helsinki Hudson and will serve Taste.NY.gov local libations and a farm-fresh menu. Music will be playing from 6 p.m. until midnight in support of the FarmOn! Foundation and the organization’s regional farming families. Join Lukas Nelson & POTR,

4th Annual Catfish Derby

The 4th Annual “Leo Lasher” Catfish Derby is July 19 at Dutchman’s Landing in Catskill. Entrance fee is $15 per person.

Summer Seminar at Verdigris Tea

Farm to Table Benefit Dinner for The Sylvia Center

The Sylvia Center invites you to our annual Farm to Table Benefit Dinner in the fields of Katchkie Farm on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Our buffet dinner will feature seasonal and local ingredients and a dish made by Sylvia Center students. Cocktail hour and tours of the Children’s Learning Garden will take place from 6-7pm and dinner will begin at 7pm. Proceeds from the dinner will

15th Annual Blueberry Festival
